If you’ve ever wondered what the rarest watches made by Victorinox Swiss Army are, then you have come to the right place. I will be attempting to list them in order of rarity. I will start with the models that are easier to find and work up to the so-called “unicorn status watches”. These limited editions are almost never seen in in the metal or for sale. Make sure to scroll to the end of the article to see the #1 rarest limited edition Swiss Army watch made by Victorinox.

Chasing watch grails made by Victorinox Swiss Army

Chasing watch grails made by Victorinox Swiss Army

To keep this list manageable, I only highlighted the top 10 rarest limitedย edition watches from Victorinox Swiss Army. All of the models on the list were made inย quantities of 250 or less. Some were made in numbers significantly smaller as you will see. The complete list of the brand’s limitedย edition watches can be found in the Limited Edition Watches by Victorinox Swiss Armyย category ofย the Victorinox Swiss Army Watch Identifier. The top 10 list is as of February 2018 and any newly released limited edition watches (either discovered from the past, or released) could render the list obsolete. Without further fanfare… here are the Top 10 Rarest Limited Edition Watches from Victorinox Swiss Army. Actually, this list goes to 11 because the production numbers of some of the watches tied (and I could nto resist).

#11 (TIE) - 250 MADE

ย Airboss Mechanical Limited Edition (V.241760)

If I’m being honest, this first limited edition cheats a little. It appears to be a re-release of an earlier limited edition model (241600) that was released in 2013. The prevoius limited edition watch had the same case and dial as the 241760, but it had a brown suede leather strap instead of a black leather strap shown here. Perhaps there was still demand for the earlier 500-run watch and the wanted to fill the need. Regardless, the SKU is different so it counts. #11 (TIE) - 250 MADE

ย Airboss Mach 9 Limited Edition (V.241732)

It might be faster to list what is NOT on this limitedย edition bead-blasted titanium watch as it almost has everything including the kitchen sink. There are left-handedย (destro) pushers and a crown. There is an internal fuel-gauge calculator on the innner bezel that is manipulated with the crown at 2:00. There is a red printed 24-hour scale on the underside of the crystal and i9t comes on a velvettyย smooth leather bund strap. Whew! #10 โ€“ 200 MADE

Ground Force Mechanical Limited Edition with a Green Dial (V.24794)

Swiss Army is not really known for making green dial watches, much less one that looks like a sparkling emerald or the eyes of an exotic jungle fruit fly. The dial on this limited edition is iridescent with its sunburst pattern and splashes of contrasting red. #9 โ€“ 150 MADE

Officerโ€™s 1884 Limited Edition (V.24713)

Made in 2005, this automatic version of the Officer’s 1884 watch has what appears to be a black plasticย bezel and black PVD coated crown. The unusual gray starburst dial with black numerals really make this limited edition version rise above the standard models. Note the custom rubber strap that fits between the lugs perfectly. Good luck finding a replacement if that ever breaks.

After years of collecting, many watch enthusiasts become immune to the pleasurable effects of owning “standard-issue watches” and soon seek out the primo quality limited editions. Admittedly, I have both types of watches in myย collection. While I love my daily drivers, it is the limited edition and special edition watches that really get me excited. I’m not alone in this sentiment. These are the ones to stay up late looking on the internet for a glimpse of them.

In terms of rarity, I consider two metrics. The most commonly accepted factor concerns how many watches were made in a limitedย edition run of watches. Some manufacturers are tricky with this. It is debatable whether a model where 1,000 or 2,000 watches were produced should be considered limited. If worldwide demand is great enough, then even this somewhat high number will not be enough to go around to all the different collectors who want one.

#8 โ€“ 125 MADE

ย Airboss Mach 6 Blue Limited Edition (V.24848)

At first glance, this subtle sleeper might look like the standard issue blue Airboss Mach 6, but a dizzying number of details were tweaked to make this ultra-rare version extra special. From an improvedย movement to a killer blue sunburst dial with matteย subdials, this model received top marks for taking a standard design to the next level. Also, it is actually rarer than the highly coveted Airboss Mach 6 Powergauge that was released several years later. #7 โ€“ 125 MADE

Infantry Vintage Jubilee Limited Edition Quartz Chronograph (V. 241329)

This bright red and golden yellow quartz watch was released for Victorinox Swiss Army’s Jubilee Celebration in 2009. It is one of the most difficult models to acquire. Be prepared to pay (significantly more than you think) if you ever do see one for sale. #6 โ€“ 120 MADE

ChronoPro Limited Edition Mechanical Chronograph (V. 25161)

This limited edition Chronopro could be considered a parts-bin special, and that is not meant to sound derogatory. The case and the dial already appeared on other ChronoPro models, but they were combined in a new way by the factory for a very short production run. The Valjoux 7750 movement was likely upgraded to a high-spec caliber with blue screws as well.

The real fun starts when production numbers are ultra low. The lower the number, the rarerย the watch should be considered. Obviously, this is because collectors will have less of a chance to actually find one for sale. Turnover of these watches may be limited as the owners do not want to give up a jewel in their collection. I have seen some models on this list for sale only once. Years may literally pass before you see another. This scarcity could be a factor why collectors pay a premium for the LE watch. They have to have it, and it’s the only one for sale. Been there… done that.

#5 โ€“ 100 MADE

ย SC 1500 Solar Compass, Mechanical Limited Edition

The Solar Compass came in quartz (SC1000) and mechanical (SC1500) variants. This limited edition, manually-wound mechanical edition has an elaborately decorated movement. Surprisingly, it also lacks the running second’s hand that is present on the standard issue mechanical Solar Compasses. This ommission makes for a somewhat static dial. This model has the “round olive branch” European version of the Swiss Army logo.

#4 โ€“ 77 MADE

Alpnach Mechanical Chrono Airforce One Limited Editionย (V.249045)

This 2011 model is essentially a regimental watch made specifically for the crew members of Airforce One whose mission is to transport the president and vice president of the United States.ย It was never sold to the public and should only be owned by crew members. If you ever see one, then it will truly be a rare occurrence. The presidential seal is recreated in amazing detail on the dial. #3 โ€“ 66 MADE

Legacy Rรฉserve de Marche Platine (V.241086)

This 2006 model was the most expensive watchย ever made by Victorinox Swiss Army. It was manufactured with platinum and cost over $19,500 when new. This halo watch is unusual in both design and material choice. Read the full article atย MEET THE WATCH: Victorinox Swiss Army 2006 Legacy Rรฉserve de Marche Platine Ultra Watch.

#2 โ€“ 50 MADE

ย Airboss Mach 4 XL Limited Edition (V.25078)

Launched in ultra-limited numbers for the introduction of the new-for-2003 Airboss Mach 4 XL watch models. The yellow dot on the running seconds subdial is the one to look for. Read the full article atย MEET THE WATCH: Rare Victorinox Swiss Army Airboss Mach 4 Limited Edition

At the time of writing this article, Victorinox Swiss Army has made at least 35+ limited edition watch styles over the years. That number is likely higher because my database is incomplete, and new models will be added over time. This is an arduous task because I have to manually find new models and add them. Currently, there are thousands of SKUs in the Victorinox Swiss Army Watch Identifier. Even now, I occasionally run across unfamiliar models that I have never seen or heard of before. It is always exciting to catalog a “new-to-me” specimen.

The model shown below is the rarest Victorinox Swiss Army watch that I know of if we only go by the production run of only 30 and do not includeย prototypes, which could number even fewer.ย Did I miss any Victorinox Swiss Army Limitedย Edition watches? If you have corrections or suggestions for this list, please contact me or leave a comment.

Ambassador XL Chronograph Exclusive in 18K White Gold ย (V.241214)

This 2007 “first series” model is the only Swiss Army watch that I know of made with a solid 18K white gold case. This precious metal was not used before or since and it had a hefty price tag to match its luxury status.
